The North Carolina Women of the ELCA
The North Carolina Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA) support events and services for congregational expressions that meet in all North Carolina Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) congregations across North Carolina. Some congregations have congregational units (CUs) who gather in groups (circles) for study, advocacy, service and fellowship. However, not all congregations have an active CU but we consider all women who are a member of any ELCA Church in North Carolina to be considered a member of NC WELCA.
Much of the work of the statewide organization is done through its committees. These committees meet twice yearly at Committee Day events that are held in August and in January. Contact us if you are interested in serving at the state level. For more information about our committees, please see our committees' page. These committees are very active in writing articles for our newsletter and planning events at a statewide level just to name a couple of things.
Our committees are: Gathering Planning, Conference Leaders, Stewardship, Discipleship, Justice, and Media Outreach.
Your NC WELCA is led by 4 Executive Board Members and up to 9 Board members who meet 6 planned times throughout the year and meet via Zoom if/when needed. The board members lead the committees and guide them to do the work of the organization.
