Scholarship Applications
The Maxine Amos Triennial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in loving memory of Maxine Locklear Amos who passed away July 13,2025 at the age of 89. This scholarship will financially assist women who wish to attend the WELCA Triennial Gathering. Maxine was an educator, woman of God, elder of the Lumbee tribe, and mentor to many of the North Carolina Women of the ELCA.
Maxine Amos was a dear friend to everyone who knew her. She remembered NC WELCA in her estate planning. The NC WELCA Board recently met and developed this scholarship in honor of our Maxine Amos. To learn more about this scholarship please read this: Maxine Amos Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements:
- A woman of color or whose primary language is other than English
- A woman with financial need who would like to attend the Triennial

- To attend Triennial worship services and activities

Christine Bohr Anderson Seminary Scholarship Application
The NC Board of the Women of the ELCA has discussed and agreed to modify the scope of the scholarship to increase participation in the Christine Bohr Anderson
scholarship. Previously, the scholarship was to benefit women of the ELCA who attended a Lutheran seminary. We are now offering the scholarship to a woman who is
attending an ACCREDITED seminary. We also agreed that women who are called to go into lay ministry could also apply for the scholarship.
Applicants must meet one of the three requirements:
- Applicant must be attending an accredited Seminary. This can include on- line courses.
- Applicant must be serving currently in an ELCA Synodical Lay Ministry role.
- Applicant must be an ordained minister in the ELCA church and enrolled in courses for Leadership Education.
The amount of the scholarship is $1,000.00 dollars. Notification will be made to the recipient(s) prior to the North Carolina Synodical Women’s Organization Gathering in June. The deadline for the applications to be received is May 1. Checks will be mailed to the individual or seminary around August 1.

Discipleship Scholarship
Our discipleship scholarship is being revamped and will be announced at our Annual Gathering this coming June at Lenoir Rhyne University. Please stay tuned for this announcement.
Meanwhile if you are attending a Retreat or the Annual Gathering and need financial assistance scholarships are available and you may request via email describing your financial need. Scholarships are for 50% or 100% depending on the need and number requested.

The Patterson Memorial Fund
The scholarship is available to members of a NC Synod, ELCA congregation who plan to attend an accredited four-year college or university for a bachelor's degree or one of the accredited seminaries, with financial need being a requirement. The scholarship funds come from the investments of the Karl B. Patterson and Family Estate, administered by Wells Fargo Company.
Additional Guidelines for Applicants:
- Assistance is available for 3 of the 4 seminary years: assistance is not available during the intern year.
- Applicant should be prepared to show evidence of financial need

Supporting Our Sisters "SOS" Grant
An annual campaign to raise funds for inspiring speakers at our Gatherings, provide learning resources for our leaders, and seed money for new ministries dedicated to

promoting God's mission in the world. Please donate $10 annual if you are able to help achieve these goals.
